The Certified Investment Management AnalystSM (CIMA®) certification is the only credential of its kind for those who want to attain a high level of competency as an advanced investment consultant. Administered through the Investment Management Consultants Association® (IMCA®), the CIMA certification certifies that the CIMA professional has completed a rigorous process to achieve a high level of competency, professionalism, and investment expertise.
Chicago Booth Executive Education has been approved by IMCA to offer the educational component of the CIMA certification program. The Booth program leverages years of experience as the exclusive provider of IMCA’s Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®) certification. It also combines the expertise of leading Booth finance faculty, several of whom recently designed groundbreaking investable indexes for the Center for Research in Security Prices and who continue to blend academic theory with real-world relevance.

 | | Certified Investment Management AnalystSM (CIMA®) Certification Program Outline: | This program has been designed to maximize your time spent in Chicago, with the first session beginning at 8:00 am on Monday and the final review session concluding by 8:30 pm on Friday. Evening computational review sessions have been incorporated into the schedule to help you apply, process, and retain the information. These sessions will give you the opportunity to ask questions as well as work through sample problems. Focused case studies have also been incorporated into the syllabus to bring the content to life.
On Saturday, there will be an exam to measure your mastery of the program topics. Those who pass the exam will have successfully completed the Booth educational component in the CIMA certification process and will be thoroughly prepared to take the Certification Examination.

 | | Certified Investment Management AnalystSM (CIMA®) Certification Prerequisites: | The CIMA® certification program requires that candidates meet all eligibility requirements, including experience, education, examination, and ethics. Before attending the Chicago Booth program, there are two steps that you must complete first through IMCA:

| | | John C. Heaton | John C. Heaton studies asset pricing, portfolio allocation, and time-series economics. He first became drawn to this area because he was "intrigued by the idea of understanding economic phenomena both to guide policy and to help people make better decisions." His research in these areas has earned him numerous fellowships, including an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship from 1993 to 1995, a National Science Foundation Fellowship from 1993 to 1998, and a Provost Fund Fellowship from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1989 to 1992. Complete biography | | Lubos Pastor | Lubos Pastor is Charles P. McQuaid Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy and Research. In addition, he serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Review of Financial Studies. Complete biography | | Kathleen Fitzgerald | Kathleen Fitzgerald is known at the University of Chicago as a superb educator. She teaches pre-MBA accounting and analytical methods at the University of Chicago Business School and Financial Accounting at the University of Chicago Law School. She holds the position as one of the few global Directors of Academic Support at the University Of Chicago Booth School of Business in London and Singapore in which she prepares members of the Booth Executive MBA program for the rigors of Chicago's quantitative approach to finance, economics, statistics, and marketing. Complete biography | | Scott G. Thayer, CIMA® | Scott Thayer is an Institutional Consulting Director - Investments with Graystone Consulting in Santa Rosa California. Scott started his career at EF Hutton in 1983 after leaving his position at Chico State University lecturing in Finance and Investments. Scott is focused predominantly on the advice and management of Non-Profit Foundations, both in the US and abroad. Throughout his career, he has been recognized both by the industry and his peers as a thought leader. Complete biography | | Pietro Veronesi | Professor Pietro Veronesi has been a part of the University of Chicago's teaching faculty since 1997, and currently is the Roman Family Professor of Finance and Robert King Steel Faculty Fellow. Veronesi conducts research that focuses on asset pricing, stock and bond valuation under Bayesian uncertainty and learning, and equilibrium models of return predictability. Veronesi is a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a research fellow of the Center for Economic and Policy Research. Veronesi teaches both masters- and PhD-level courses. He created a popular MBA course entitled "Cases in Financial Risk Management" which he teaches in addition to an MBA/PhD course on "Fixed Income Asset Pricing.” In 2009, he won the prestigious McKinsey award for excellence in teaching. The Investment Management Issue, published by Chicago Booth May 2012 This issue showcases recent research on investment management by Chicago Booth faculty – including CIMA professors John Heaton and Lubos Pastor. The selected works feature empirical analysis based on CRSP data as well as new theoretical developments. A distinguishing feature of all the works is the insights they provide for the practice of investment management. The lessons range from new perspectives on the measurement and management of long-run risk and return, the evaluation of mutual fund performance and active management, and the impact of high water marks on the incentives of hedge fund managers.
