THE TRANSITION TO GENERAL MANAGEMENT
The Executive Development Program is designed to prepare successful functional level executives for general management responsibilities. This intensive two-week program is taught by an outstanding group of professors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. The program's core faculty members have extensive experience and expertise in global business and teaching executives.

The Executive Development Program provides high potential executives with conceptual frameworks to set strategy, make decisions, and lead effectively as a successful general manager. Participants will gain an understanding of critical functional areas and their interconnection, as well as develop skills needed to lead cross-functional teams. The program is designed to prepare participants with the critical capabilities to succeed in an ever-changing global business environment.

Who Should Attend
The program's participants are an international group of experienced managers. The general age range of the group is 35 to 55 years old. They come from large publicly-held companies, private corporations, and smaller organizations. The class participants represent a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, services, finance, transportation, healthcare, not-for-profit, and government.

Participants in EDP have been identified by their organizations as executives who have recently assumed greater responsibilities within their companies. They usually have expertise in one or more functional areas or may already be leading organizations that are in the process of expanding. Participants usually hold such titles as division manager, country manager, business unit manager, group product manager, sales or marketing manager, R&D or engineering manager, director of strategic planning, director of manufacturing, or director of human resources or personnel. Participants also include entrepreneurs, presidents, and owners of small companies with growth potential.

Participants typically have a minimum of 10 years business experience with some managerial and leadership background. The candidate’s level and type of experience will be important characteristics for the EDP admissions committee. Proficiency in written and spoken English is required for successful participation in the course.

The admissions committee considers the overall character of the class, as well as the individual candidate’s qualifications because peer-group interaction and learning are essential to this premier educational experience.

Phil BergerPhil Berger is the Wallace W. Booth Professor of Accounting at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He previously served on the faculty of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (1991-2002) and also served as a visiting associate professor at MIT's Sloan School of Management (1998-99).

Ronald E. Campbell
Ronald E. CampbellRon Campbell is responsible for managing the design, delivery and marketing of the Center for Leadership Studies programs worldwide. This includes a domestic network of strategic business partners, as well as 26 foreign affiliate offices. Prior to appointment as President in 1992, he served as Executive Vice President of Marketing, and as Director of Training Development.

Boaz Keysar
Boaz KeysarDr. Boaz Keysar is a Professor of Psychology and Chair of the Cognition program at the University of Chicago. He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1989 and was a visiting scholar at Stanford University before joining the faculty at the University of Chicago in 1991.

Marc Knez
Marc KnezProfessor Marc Knez currently teaches strategy courses in the Chicago Booth full-time and part-time MBA programs. He studies strategic and organizational decision making, strategic planning, and market analysis. His academic research evolved from a focus on applying game theory and decision theory to strategic decision making to a focus on market analysis, strategy development, and organizational structure.

Ann McGill
Ann McGillAnn McGill joined the Chicago faculty in 1997. She teaches MBA level classes in marketing management and a doctoral level marketing workshop. Professor McGill is the 2005 recipient of the prestigious McKinsey Award for Excellence in Teaching. Her research focuses on consumer decision making, in particular, causal explanations, evaluation of shared (versus individual) consumption experiences, effects of freedom of choice on the evaluation of alternatives, the use of imagery in product choice, and the causes and effects of product anthropomorphism.
